Just about every home decor store I’ve walked into over the past few months has featured a bar cart. They are very hot right now, most likely because of their versatility and the way they can add a splash of glamour to either an indoor or outdoor space. This week I took an outdated baby changing table and transformed it into a bar cart that shines!
Ok… I admit… it didn’t really take that much effort to transform this furniture piece into a bar cart. It was actually pretty easy because it had great lines, open shelving, and turned legs that added a touch of style. Here’s how the table looked in its original form…
It looks a little orange in the photo. In reality it was just basic, boring brown. Transforming it took just two cans of high gloss, shiny gold spray paint and…
I don’t consider myself a decorator, but I’ve seen enough HGTV and read enough House Beautiful to know you should add glass, silver, or gold as sparkle to finish off a room.
This portable table can be used both indoors or brought outside for your summer cookouts.
This isn’t the first time I’ve repurposed a furniture piece. You can see in some older posts how I transformed a baby changing table into a wine bar and how I displayed an industrial metal rolling cart as a bar cart.
There was some debate as to whether to paint this piece gold, silver, or high gloss black. Coming across an almost identical table, made experimentation a little easier. I spray painted one shiny gold and one to resemble chrome.
I really like the silver (only because it goes better with the decor in my own home).
The only problem was two of the shelves had some damage on them which the spray paint did not cover.
So now I’m left with two options…
either sell the silver cart very inexpensively or repair it and paint it the high gloss black which would allow the repairs to be covered.
I think option two is the better one so stay tuned for that reveal.
