Have you ever had a psychic moment? How about intuition or thinking of a particular person and all of a sudden you run into them? Well, the other day my friend sent me a lucky penny.
The day started just fine. I was scheduled to deliver some furniture to a client and then had planned to spend the rest of the day painting in the workshop.
At the last minute, I received a text canceling the delivery time and rescheduling to an hour and a half later. I’m the type of person that needs to have a plan in order to make the most of the day and be the most productive I can be. I prefer it that way so that when the kids return home from school, I can then focus on them without the guilt of feeling like I wasted the day away.
I was already on my way to the client with their furniture loaded in my truck and and knew I couldn’t go home and get involved in a painting project; because quite honestly when I paint, I go all in, get pretty dirty if I have to sand and prep a piece first, and am not always presentable to be back out in public in that condition.
A little frustrated with the last minute cancellation, I decided to run into the grocery store to make the most of the time slot. It was as I was walking back to the car, that I came across the Lucky Penny.
At the time, I didn’t realize the significance of that penny other than the fact that “lucky me” I was one cent richer than I was moment ago.
I jumped in the car still feeling out of sorts with the day’s disrupted plan and called one of my best friends, Dorene. I’ve talked about Dorene before and how she started her own branding company last year called Savory Insights, LLC. She’s my go-to person to help me stay focussed on my goals, especially my business goals. Little did I know that she had already sent me her well wishes that day.
Dorene’s day was already well under way when I contacted her at 9:45 AM that morning. She had travelled 40 minutes to a local college to attend an entrepreneur workshop only to find out it was cancelled. At that point her day could have taken either of two paths… frustration for a disrupted plan and time wasted… or…
As Dorene inquired about the cancelled class she happen to speak with the program’s director. The Director apologized for the inconvenience and asked if perhaps they could sit and talk for a few minutes. By the end of their conversation, the Director was telling Dorene that she recognized how knowledgeable she was and instead of Dorene attending the class thought Dorene should be involved in teaching a class!
Dorene’s day had completely turned around and she felt very fortunate.
Leaving the college Dorene stopped for gas. As she was pumping the gas, she looked down and there saw a heads-up lucky penny.
She clearly had the thought that since her day had already turned positive she was going to leave that penny there for the next person because they may need the added luck.
This entire scenario happened just before I found my Lucky Penny in the grocery store parking lot and called Dorene. She sent me her Lucky Penny… don’t you think?
