This month has been all about Simplifying Life & Home. One of the most important things you can do as you work to simplify is to remember your priorities and know your limits.
This morning I woke up at 6:00 A.M. and before my eyes were even open I was thinking about what I wanted to write about today. I envisioned this entire post in my mind and I knew as soon as I could sit up and get to my computer the words would automatically flow.
Before I could get to my laptop, I opened email on my phone and came across an old post by French by Design’s titled ‘Learning to Say No‘. Great minds must think alike as her post was very similar to the words I wanted to share with you today.
I completely agree with her words… in order to keep on track with your overall business plan, you need to stay focussed. You need to hold the line, and say ‘no” to those daily distractions that don’t keep you on your path to your overall goal. I actually talked a bit about this in my October 3rd post titled, Pairing Down Your Workload.
Yet, there are days when that plan will be interrupted and I want you to know that’s okay. It has to be okay, otherwise the stress will build and all of a sudden, our lives are no longer SIMPLE. All of a sudden our lives will feel very complicated.
I didn’t post for a few days this month; the reason being is that I understood my priorities and recognized my limits.
I’ve been working all day long finishing up the painting projects so we can get the cars back in the garage for the winter. It hasn’t been until the evening that I’ve been able to sit long enough to focus on writing. Up until now, that schedule has worked pretty smoothly. This week however, a few other priorities have taken over. My high school kids have had extensive projects and lengthy papers due and my middle-schooler has required a little extra help with homework. With so much going on at the same time, the kids have had to borrow my laptop to complete their projects.
My kids became my priority this week and I’m so glad I took the time to remember that. Had I not, the stress levels would have risen and I would have rushed to help them in order to complete another item on my “list”. I may have even gotten frustrated with them that I was doing their work when I should have been doing mine.
The thing is, our lists never end.
We may wake up with a detailed project list and have the best of intentions to be super women to get it all done, but sometimes it’s just as important to remember our priorities and know our limits.
We are Moms, wives, daughters, grand-daughters, sisters, and aunts. Keep life simple and remember that the most important thing in life is family. Know that you are super woman and yet you are not indestructible. Remember your priorities and understand that our lists never end.
