Last week I was lucky enough to come across an old home being renovated. If your eyes just automatically popped open, then I know you refinish furniture like me. You see the words “old home” and instantly think… old furniture… solid wood furniture! Whooo Hooo!
Yup, that’s exactly what happened. Over the next few weeks you’ll see some of the gorgeous SOLID WOOD pieces I’m so lucky to have the chance to refinish.
And a funny side note… The super-nice contractor who helped me carry it all to my truck also happened to be the husband of my childhood babysitter. How funny is that! Very small world.
One of the pieces that came from that home, was this antique vanity.
I’m pretty sure I can officially call it “antique” because when furniture has a piece that I don’t recognize or understand what it’s for, then it must be much older than me. These “wings” slide out from underneath the surface before you can open the drawers. Please leave a comment at the bottom if you know what they’re for. I’d love to know.
The original paint color was Dove White, an off-white. I started by sanding it down to smooth the peeling paint and a few dents in the wood and then applied Benjamin Moore Advance semi-gloss in the same Dove White color.
The wood still shows some of it’s age, but that’s part of the beauty of an antique… it tells the story of use.
Here’s the vanity pictured with one of my dining chairs. You can see it’s perfect size for a girl’s morning makeup routine.
This antique vanity is for sale in my Shop.
