Open any design catalog and you’ll find an image of a bar cart. Whether it be gold, platinum, copper, or industrial metal, bar carts add both functionality and beauty to a space. Which is exactly why I’m always on the lookout for small tables that can be transformed into bar carts or tables (since carts technically have wheels and are mobile).
The best options are those that have multiple open shelves so the glassware and bottles are easily accessible. Baby changing tables work perfectly and are pretty easy to find. The shape works so well that they typically only require a bit of paint to transform.
This changing table started off as basic brown. It was given two coats of Benjamin Moore Super Spec DTM Acrylic in black – one of my favorite paints to use on furniture pieces, especially those that may not be real wood.
This paint brushes on like an oil-based paint, leveling out very well; but unlike oil-based, it’s soap and water cleanup. DTM stands for “direct-to-metal”. Not only does it adhere to metal, it adheres to every surface on which I’ve ever used it. There’s no priming or topcoat required.
According to the technical data sheet (BM Acrylic DTM 20111216_P25_TDS_US_OKF-3), this paint can be used for interior wood. The DTM coverage is amazing. It covers in one coat, but I always apply at least two to furniture just in case a spot was missed. The dry time is also very quick so two coats can be applied in the same day.
One of the best things about this paint though is the low lustre finish. Imagine one of those gorgeous buffets or wine bars from Pottery Barn. The sprayed-on black paint they use isn’t shiny yet it has a very low sheen that’s so incredibly smooth to the touch. This Benjamin Moore low lustre DTM paint dries just like that!
Since this paint is for both interior and exterior, using the DTM paint on bar carts means the cart (or table) can be used indoors or out.
Wouldn’t this look great on your back porch for your next cookout?
