Boston is an amazing city and it was a beautiful week for the Tall Ships to visit. They were here on the tail end of their race across the Atlantic and the city had tons of events taking place since their arrival. The ships are absolutely magnificent. If you’ve never seen the Tall Ships, it’s absolutely worth the experience.
Boston is an official port of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta. The regatta begins in the United Kingdom, then the ships race to Portugal and then to Bermuda before racing to Boston. From Boston, the fleet cruises to Canada.
If I remember correctly, the ships come to Boston about every five years. Although I wasn’t able to make it in to see them this time around, I have been lucky enough to have seen them twice before. The photos you see here were taken by my brother-in-law and sister who took a bike-ride into Boston to see them up close.
The first time I saw them, the kids were really little. We took a boat ride around the harbor which brought us right alongside every one of the ships. It really was the best way to see them! Back then the boat ride was $35 pp but the since the kids were all under 12 they were all free. It was a total bargain – especially considering we went in with my sister-in-law who also had her three kids.
The event is called Sail Boston. If you’d like more information on all of the events that took place or on the ships themselves, you can check out the Sail Boston 2017 website. Although the ships leave Boston tomorrow, you may be able to catch sight of a few throughout the day. If not, it’s definitely worth planning a trip around their next visit to the area.
And while you’re in town, don’t forget to visit Boston’s top two bakeries located just a few blocks from the harbor in the North End – Mike’s Pastry and Modern Pastry Shop. They’re both famous for their amazing cannolis!
