Let’s get creative ladies! It’s time to add a little color to your workspace with a navy blue abstract desk. After all, we’re building businesses here and we need surroundings that will spark that creativity and ingenuity.
Whether you’re working from an entire room designated as your home office or you’re working from the corner of your living room, there’s no excuse not to make it look pretty. See how I took this rather plain desk from one that blended in to a colorful standout piece of abstract art.
You can see that the desk was just a basic brown computer desk. Nothing fancy, but totally useful. So I got to work sanding it down…
And then priming…
And then…. Waaaaa Laaaaa….
This desk needed something completely different than the original brown stain. It needed color, interest, and design. It needed some navy blue and white.
To create this finish, I painted the entire base in Valspar’s White Cabinet Enamel – a very durable, very easy to work with enamel that goes on smooth and hardens in just about a day.
From there, I painted the top in Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy. It was actually a can I scored off the mistint shelf at the local hardware store for just a few dollars.
To create the lower design where the two colors meet, paint on the blue in vertical downward strokes. The first coat was brushed down the farthest into the white. The second coat was brushed downward but not as close to the white, and the third coat was brushed downward but only at the top of the blue to ensure full coverage closest to the top of the blue.
The design wraps around the entire desk – which is perfect if your desk floats in the room.
While the white enamel doesn’t need a topcoat, the blue latex does. It’s just a basic eggshell wall paint and will withstand daily use much better with a clear coat. So a few coats of Minwax matte polycrlic was brushed onto the blue.
I happen to have this vintage chair in the workshop and decided it was the perfect complement to this desk. So it was painted in the same navy blue.
This navy blue abstract desk and chair are both now available in the Entri Ways’ online Shop.

That’s a lovely makeover, Vicki. I like the artful way that you recreated a plain old desk into a space where you can feel inspired. Great work!
Very cool Vicki. I hope you keep this one. I have really grown very fond of this look.
Me too Mary. I think I may keep the black and white one. I’m loving it too.
