Welcome to Part 3 of my Northern Italy tour where we headed north to Trento and Bolzano on our way to the Dolomites. You can read about Milan and Verona in earlier posts.
We left Verona and began the drive north to Trento. The mountains were not far off and the drive was incredibly scenic. Here’s a photo out the front window of our coach bus. And this is just the start. The mountains got much bigger as we drove closer to the Dolomites.

Trento
Trento is a smaller town north of Verona. We stayed just on the outskirts of and went into the center plaza for dinner. It was another beautiful town but small enough that a you could walk around and see the area in an hour or two.

.
Bolzano
The next morning we continued north to Bolzano – known as the gateway to the Dolomites. Driving up to the town, it looked more industrial than any of the others, but it was actually a really interesting place to visit.
We were in Bolzano for about 3 hours. Our tour included the South Tyrol Museum of Archeology where were saw Ortzi, the 5300-year-old mummy of a man found frozen in the Ortzi Alps of northern Italy and known as Ortzi man. Museums aren’t usually my thing but if it’s yours, it was interesting.
After the tour we had some time to walk the city, take in the architecture, and have lunch at an outdoor cafe.

From Bolzano we headed north to Cortina. And wait until you see Cortina! We built this entire trip around the next leg of our trip and it did not disappoint.

Remember I’ll also be posting photos to Facebook and Instagram.
And follow-along by email here.
Next up is Cortina and the Dolomites!!!
