In my last two posts, I explained the basic guidelines and the detailed steps to post an item for sale on Ebay. If you missed them, you can read them here:
Today, l’ll explain exactly what to do when you receive notification from Ebay that one of your items sold.
How to Sell on Ebay – Part 3
Note: On the images below, I’ve blacked out Buyer/Seller info for privacy purposes. Also, although the product description varies in the images I show below, when actually performing these steps, you should confirm that the product you’re working on is the same at each step
STEP 1: Notification of Sale from Ebay
When one of the products you posted for sale on Ebay finally does sell, Ebay will send you an email that looks like this one above. Do not take any action on this email until you receive a second email from PayPal (see Step 2).
Step 2: Notification of Payment from PayPal
This email from PayPal, confirms that the Buyer has paid for the item and that the shipping address the Buyer provided has been confirmed. It’s now okay to print a shipping label and mail your the item.
STEP 3: Print a Shipping Label
Once you receive the email from PayPal confirming that the Buyer has paid for the item, it’s now time to print a shipping label. Return to this original email from Ebay in Step 1 and click the “Print a Shipping Label” link.
STEP 4: Purchase & Print Postage
When you click the “Print a Shipping Label” link, you’ll automatically be directed to this Ebay page. At this point, confirm the shipping method, size, and weight and click “Purchase Postage”. This will bring you to a page where you actually print the label. Be sure your computer is hooked up to a printer. PayPal automatically deducts the postage amount from your PayPal account. On this same page, you’ll then be able to print a packing slip.
STEP 4: Package the Product & Mail
Place the product and the packing slip inside the shipping envelope/box and seal the package with packing tape. When I pack an item, I always pack it in plastic to protect it from water damage.
When I attach the paper mailing label, I always cover it completely with clear packing tape to also protect it from water damage.
Finally, mail the package at the US Post Office or by placing it in a USPS mail box.
