Year-end is the perfect time to review what we’ve accomplished in the past year and where we are headed. So it’s the perfect time to show you my favorite furniture makeovers in 2015.
First up are the buffets. I love taking long, solid wood dressers and converting them into buffets, entryway tables, and media stands to be used in the dining, hallway, or living room.
Old World Sideboard – Black Glaze Over Green
One of my favorite new products that I discovered this past year was General Finishes Glaze. I used their glaze on several furniture pieces including this sideboard which was quite the colonial mess. Deep scratches, missing doors and drawers, and just too brown!
General Finishes Pitch Black Glaze over a custom sea green and this sideboard has been transformed from colonial times to an Old World beauty that’s ready to be handed down through the generations.
Colonial Dresser Turned Modern Buffet
Here’s another old colonial piece that’s been brought into modern times. Again, the deep scratches, broken moldings, outdated hardware, and colonial scrolls all had to go.
Once I was able to repair the parts and straighten all of the lines, the Pitch Black Glaze was able to work it’s magic over the deep navy blue paint.
At the opposite end of the spectrum is my love of mid-century modern furniture. I really need to do more MCM makeovers in 2016.
I’ve always loved high-contrast pieces. Statement pieces. While everything else in a room is monochromatic, a furniture piece like this mid-century modern three-drawer dresser would steal the show.
Again, the high-contrast of white paint and dark wood can transform a plain furniture piece into an understated masterpiece.
Modern Turquoise & White Striped Coffee Table / Bench
As you can see I love high-contrast modern furniture pieces and this turquoise and white is no exception.
Modern Orange-Two-Tier Lane Table
Okay… I have one final modern design to show you. Again, high-contrast colors. This orange would make an entryway pop!
Wouldn’t these chairs add just the right amount of sunshine to your morning coffee? In 2016, I’d like to try a few more fun furniture pieces like these lemon ombre chairs. They have just the right amount of modern, bright color to add “happy” to a dining space.
Starburst Pedestal Table with Driftwood Stain
In 2015 I worked on perfecting my staining technique. I started with this heavily polyurethaned pedestal table.
The dark wax over Driftwood stain seemed to make refinishing this table easy. The two colors work so perfectly together to create a soft gray, naturally worn finish.
In an earlier life these were built-in cabinets. They’ve been transformed into white and gold bedside tables on casters that are both practical and beautiful. I saw this design in just about every design magazine I opened in 2015. Gold (brass) has made a come-back and it’s going to be even stronger in 2016!
Happy New Year to you all!
Thank you for joining me as I continue to grow this business and create into 2016!
