Winter is here in New England and there’s nothing like a steaming cup of hot chocolate to warm your insides. You may be surprised at how easy it is to make your own sugar-free hot chocolate. Then rejoice because you’re not feeding your children processed sugar! Here’s an easy homemade recipe you can whip up in just a minute…
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Water
- 1/4 cup Cream
- 1 tbsp Natural Unsweetened Cocoa
- 1/2 tsp Vanila Extract
- Sprinkle (less than 1/8 tsp) of salt – optional
- 1 to 1-1/2 tsp Honey
Boil two cups of water. Stir in one tablespoon of Natural Unsweetened Cocoa until smooth. Add one-half teaspoon of Vanilla Extract. Nelsen & Massey Vanilla Extract is my favorite.
Add a very small dash of salt (optional). Stir in about a quarter cup of light cream or half & half. The cream is sugar-free and makes your hot chocolate creamy and smooth. You can use milk in a pinch, but your hot chocolate will no longer be sugar-free. You may be surprised how much sugar is in milk!
Finally, mix in about one to one and a half teaspoons of honey to taste. The honey will sweeten your hot chocolate. The kids may prefer a bit more as you get them used to moving away from the sugary, store-bought brands.
Serve warm and enjoy!
