The principles of Feng Shui promote a balance between the five elements of wood, water, metal, fire and earth. Including an equal balance of these elements in your home is an easy way to bump up the positive Feng Shui. In addition to furniture, another way I include wood elements in my own home is with wood lamps.
I received my first wood lamp as a bridal shower gift more than twenty years ago from a very good friend of mine from college. Karen, if you’re reading this, I loved that lamp and was so sad when it broke just a few months ago.
The lamp had a simple, thin, tapered base. It had been knocked over a few times over the years, so the metal hardware that held the shade was a little lopsided. Still, I held onto that lamp. What I loved about it was the look and feel of wood, the color, the feel, and the warmth it brought to the room. Still, the time came when I had to think about replacing that lamp.
Most natural looking wood lamps are actually a faux-wood resin material stained or painted to resemble natural wood. Although I’m not a Feng Shui expert, I imagine these imitations still count toward the wood element.
Lamps are a great gift. They’re both useful and one that will be held onto for years. So if you’re working on your Christmas gift list and need an idea for that person that has everything, consider gifting a natural wood resin lamp and a modern, coordinating lamp shade. The natural wood finish coordinates with almost any decor, it’s practical, it’s useful, and who doesn’t love to update their decor?
Here are few of my favorite wood and wood resin lamp bases…
This Architecural Balustrade lamp has been offered on Antique Farm House several times. I love the combination of round and square base and the fact that the wood looks worn – like a lamp you’ve had in your home for many years.
This one on Amazon is very similar.
This Threshold Turned Column lamp base and Gold Foil Criss Cross lamp shade was the set I finally decided on for my own home. The combination works perfectly with my modern, white birch farmhouse dining table.
The Banyan Global Bazaar resin spindle lamp featured on Houzz is very similar.
Finally, you won’t believe the price of this Essential Home washed wood resin lamp base at Kmart. It’s like the high-low project where you can get the “low” at Kmart for under $30!
Wood resin lamp bases are my favorite. How about you?
