Today’s reveal is a tall mid-century modern dresser that’s been sitting in my garage awaiting it’s makeover for almost a year. Here she is in all her fancy pants glory… Fancy Pants by Benjamin Moore that is… and her lighter accent of Pressed Violet.
Here’s how this dresser looked in its original form. When I brought it home, it actually got buried behind a mountain of other furniture projects. A client who walked into my workshop explained her style. This dresser happened to be a perfect match.
It’s so nice when a client sees the same potential that I saw when I first picked up this MCM dresser. It’s solid wood, has clean lines, and just enough to its design that I could highlight it’s features with paint. So I dug it out and moved it to the top of my project list.
If you recall, I refinished this dresser’s sister last Fall. I loved it so much I brought it upstairs to photograph and haven’t been able to part with it since.
My client requested I use Benjamin Moore’s Aura paint in the colors of Fancy Pants and Pressed Violet. Never having used BM’s Aura line, I was excited to give it a try.
Aura paint prides itself on being highly color-saturated. You may not quite understand this until you actually try to paint with a color with such deep pigments. With as deep as this Fancy Pants color was, the Aura paint only required two coats to obtain this intense coverage.
You don’t have to love purple to know this MCM dresser is beautiful in it’s own way.
What looks like six small drawers on the upper part of the dresser was actually one large drawer. To maintain this divided look I first painted the darker Fancy Pants in the groves and then carefully painted the Pressed Violet on the flat drawer front – being careful not to allow the lighter color into the cracks.
The hardware is original and simply refreshed with some silver spray paint. I always try to keep the original hardware because you wouldn’t find this style on the market today. It’s unique!

What a lovely piece! You did a great job on it! I am not usually a purple lover but this shade is very tasteful and soft on this piece! Well done! Thank you for sharing it at my Making Broken Beautiful party this evening!
