There are a few tricks to refinishing and selling pre-owned beds. Many furniture refinishes won’t bother with them and most consignment shops won’t even take them because they’ve found them too diffcult to sell. I disagree if you choose the right bed and the right finishes. You can check out my earlier post on exactly how to choose and refinish beds that sell well here. Today, I’m sharing my latest makeover… a solid wood, antique, white queen bed.
Here’s the bed in its original condition.
And here it is today.
This solid wood antique queen bed was lightly sanded, painted in two coasts of BIN primer to prevent bleed-through, then painted in three coats of a high quality Benjamin Moore enamel for maximum durability. The color is a custom mix that’s just a hint off of pure white for a warmer feel.
A touch of gold was added to the metal side rails just like was done with this white full bed. Once a mattress and comforter are added, just a bit of the gold will peek through making it the perfect jewelry accent.
The hooks on the rails make putting this queen bed together super easy. The hooks quickly and easily slide into the slats in the headboard and footboard.
Here’s also a sneek peak at the antque dresser with Hepplewhite pulls that was finished up yesterday. Can’t wait to show you this one tomorrow! It’s absolutely gorgeous! So if you’re not yet signed up to receive Entri Ways’ posts via email, sign in here and you won’t miss a thing.
Love this enamel paint. It’s durable, washable, hardens really quickly, and check out that shine!
If you prefer shorter posts on the footboard, the finials unscrew from the top of the posts. The posts are glued at the horizontal rail so a little muscle could remove them and then just screw the finials into the lower post.
This bed is for sale in the Entri Ways’ shop.

The power of white paint is amazing and the gold really makes the bed special.

So true! I imagine that gold to just peak out once a comforter is added for just the right amount of sparkle.
