Last week I revealed the Long Polo Blue eight-drawer dresser that was refinished for a client. Painting with deep navy blue is one of my favorite colors. My son’s bedroom furniture is the navy blue Camp collection from Pottery Barn and I’ve never grown tired of the color. As a result, whenever I get a masculine dresser, I paint it navy blue.
Of course I cannot find the “before” photo I took. It’s lost is virtual-land somewhere on my laptop; but here’s a similar dresser. This is pretty much how it looked once I got it sanded down to the bare wood.
There were a few small issues with this dresser, but since it’s solid wood, they were all easily fixed. Due to the age of the dresser, two of the dove-tailed drawers, for instance, were coming loose.
In the past, I’ve tried glueing them, but that’s messy and I’m never quite sure it will hold up over time. So this time i secured them with some L-brackets. Now that they’re in place, these drawers are as strong as the day it was made.
I also added new drawer glides to the backs of each drawer so the drawers are sure to slide smoothly and evenly. A simple addition that makes a big difference.
Finally, I changed out the antique metal swing-handle pulls to wooden knobs. The knobs were painted in the same Polo Blue color.
This tall Polo Blue dresser is now for sale in my Shop.

The color you used fascinates me Vicki. It’s not black or charcoal or blue, it’s the best combination of all of them. Perfect for a manly dresser makeover. Stunning job as always

Well put and so true about the color. It’s a great dark that blends with so many different shades.

Thank you. Yes, I love the color so much I’m sort of on a navy blue painting craze right right now. 🙂
