Do you have a business idea? Do you see people making money online and would love to do the same? Have you thought about starting your own blog or website but cannot figure out how? There are a thousand little steps to setting up a business blog or website. Entri Ways Business is here to walk you through them, one by one.
Choose a blog or website name
You know the type of business you’d like to start and may even have an idea of products and services you’ll sell. The next step is choosing a business / website/ blog name. This step can be difficult. Many people get held up on this step because it’s not cut-and-dry and it’s a name that will stick with you for the life of your business.
Changing your name later on is a difficult process. Trust me, I’ve done it and you want to avoid it if you can.
Here are a few tips for choosing the right business site name from the beginning:
Choose a Name You Love
You will be writing, reading, and saying this name over and over for years. You should love your name from the beginning or will never stop thinking about changing it – thus being held back in all of your writing and promotion.
Choose a Name that Describes Your Business
If your business is about outdoor adventure travel, choose a name that relates to your subject, such as Treks & Trailbars or The Hippy Hiker. But you certainly wouldn’t use one of these names if you’re writing about home or coffee.
Make It Clear
The name should make sense to you, but more importantly it should make sense to everyone else. Be sure the name is clearly understood. If you have to explain its meaning over and over, then the name is not clear and does not make sense to use.
The only exception would be if you intend to spend thousands of dollars to brand yourself. Nike, Spaulding, Apple. These companies chose names that, before the company became well-known, had no connection to the products they sold. It took these companies countless advertising dollars to brand their names to the point where they are easily recognized today.
If you plan to start an online business website or blog, it’s better to choose a name that’s immediately clear to your audience what you’re all about. Names like Green Mountain Coffee, The Busy Budgeter, and The Painted Drawer all immediately hint to any reader what the company is about.
Limit To Three Words
Long business names mean long URL addresses and long email addresses. When a name is too long you risk mispellings from customers. Keep your business name to just a few words.
Include Your Name or Not?
Whether or not to include your name as part of your business name or blog depends on your business. If YOU are the recognizable face of your business, then choosing a name like Jane Smith Interiors or John Doe Artwork is fine.
However, if you’re starting a home-based business blog, it may be better to choose a generic name that’s descriptive of your business.
