Just as the the New England seasons change, there are similar transitions in the world of furniture. Everything sells eventually, but not everything is in demand today. It seems that buyers alll seem to want tall dressers at the exact same time. Then a month later they all seem to be looking for long media cabinets. This past month, I’ve had several emails from people looking for a white vanity.
So what do you do when you’re a furniture refinisher and the market demands a white vanity? Create one of course!
This vanity started off as a pine desk that I had intended to sand down, re-stain, and sell as a desk. But as I looked closer, I realized the narrow depth and oodles of storage were perfect for woman’s vanity!
The people have been speaking. So a white vanity it is.
Going from wood to white means BIN primer. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… if your finish color is going to be white, you have to use a shellac primer to prevent bleed-through. Trust me on this.
We were lucky enough to have a 40 degree day here in Massachusetts a few days ago, which meant I could sand and prime outside. BIN is pretty smelly, to the point it can burn your lungs. So wearing a P100 vapor mask and working with tons of fresh air is a must. (HERE is the one I use) It’s also why I have to include an up-charge for white painted furniture pieces. Sorry folks, it has to be done.
Once primed, two coats of white Valspar cabinet were brushed on using THIS super trim Purdy brush. This brush is also one of my favorite products because I paint in several thin coats with very little paint on my brush. This super thin brush allows me to manage the paint much more easily than a thick brush that takes on more paint.
I thought the women in search of this white vanity would also appreciate these pretty ceramic knobs. Aren’t they sweet?
I found these three similar ones on Amazon for you:
Hairbrushes, makeup, and straighteners… oh my! There’s a spot for everything and to keep everything organized and hidden away. It’s better then a vanity table with a few tiny drawers. Keep everything tucked away and out of sight.
Of course, if you’re looking for a white desk, this is also the perfect piece.
