Do you have a brown stained bed from your childhood? Or, did you inherit one from your parents or grandparents? If you do, you may be wondering how you’ll possibly fit the honey-colored brown into your modern home – a home with light colors or dramatic accent pieces. Well, if that bed frame is made of solid wood, then it’s absolutely worth keeping and transforming into a Dior Gray bed.
This bed belonged to my best friend from college. I’m pretty sure it was her bed from her childhood. You’ve probably seen beds like these with their honey-brown stain and spindles all over CraigList or Facebook Marketplace. Very vintage looking, right?
But do you see what I see? Solid wood. And look at those posts on the four corners! They’re substantial and a mix of square and turned. Those corners would really pop with paint!
And they did.
The paint color is Benjamin Moore Dior Gray. It’s a medium gray with a slight purple undertone. The paint is a low lustre enamel and the most durable paint I’ve found on the market. And enamel hardens much quicker and better than typical latex paint.
The Dior Gray color would really shine against a white comforter or would complement most any color from navy and purple to pink and red.
This full size bed is now for sale in Entri Ways’ online shop. And stay turned for the coordinating dresser in the next post.

Hi there! Could you tell me the name of the enamel you used for the Dior Bed? I am about to paint a small accent table and a large chest of drawers black. I’m trying to decide whether to go with this enamel or with the black milk paint from General Finishes( however, would using the milk paint require a topcoat?).

Hi Patti, it’s UltraSpec which has a low lustre sheen. Here’s some office furniture on which I used a black UltraSpec: https://entriways.com/painting-office-furniture/. I did topcoat these with a satin water-based poly because with the dark color you can get chalk marks when you ran your hand over it. You do need a topcoat with milk paint.

Patti, If you send me a photo of your dresser, including a closeup, I can make a recommendation on exactly which paint to use. Send to: info@entriways.com
