Happy January everyone! Yes, happy! I received a HomeRight Finish Max paint sprayer in the mail earlier this week. Happy! Happy! Happy! My family thought I was a little nuts when my package arrived in the mail. The smile on my face went ear to ear. You would have thought I was opening up a box of diamonds. Yes, I get excited about refinishing tools and paint sprayers.
I may be crazy, but I absolutely love New England winters too. My favorite part is when it snows and everything seems to glow white with a haze of cool blues. That’s why this month’s furniture makeover challenge that I’m a part of is a perfect match for this pretty blue dresser makeover.
Our contest creators, hosts, and directors are Evy at Evey’s Creations, Scottie at Saved by Scottie, and Christie at Ritzy Parties, Inc. I highly recommend you check out their pages and see their own creative ventures. They’re such an inspiration!

Spray It Pretty
HomeRight makes a full line of power painting, automotive, and home care products that make DIY (do-it-yourself) tasks easier, faster and neater. It’s HomeRight’s paint sprayer that was the main focus of this month’s makeover.
While HomeRight supplied each participant with one of their Finish Max Fine Finish HVLP (high volume, low pressure) sprayer, I can assure you that all opinions are my own. I know you wouldn’t want it any other way.
For the #FabFlippinContest, we were asked to spray something pretty. I chose to paint an adorable three-drawer dresser in a beautiful, soft blue. The color is Woodlawn Blue by Benjamin Moore. It’s a very light blue that actually borders on light gray. Perfectly pretty.
This was my first time using a paint sprayer, so I have to admit that there was a bit of a learning curve – plus I’m just super cautious. The HomeRight Finish Max sprayer came with a detailed instruction booklet with detailed instructions which I read cover-to-cover. Me being me, I also jumped onto YouTube and watched a few videos to make sure I not only understood how to use the sprayer, but also understood how to clean it afterwards.
The dresser I chose to paint was one I actually refinished in pink last year. I love the pink, but since it hasn’t sold it’s time for an update.
The Woodlawn Blue paint I had in stock was an eggshell latex paint. It’s recommended to thin down the paint just a bit so that it flows smoothly through the sprayer. Since this was a water-based paint, I could thin it with water. It only required about 1/8 cup of water to obtain the right consistency. A higher gloss latex paint may require a bit more water.
The cars were cleared out of the garage and a few large pieces of plastic were laid out to protect the area. Simply unscrew the plastic tub on the bottom of the HomeRight sprayer, add your paint, thin it down a bit, plug it in and pull the trigger. That’s really all there is to it.
Some paint sprayers require the use of a heavy air compressor, this HomeRight Finish Max sprayer is not one of them. Just attached an extension cord, plug it into an outlet, and you’re ready to go.
I was actually amazed at the control I had with this HomeRight Finish Max sprayer. Notice how the paint didn’t get inside the dresser or on the draw boxes. There’s a nozzle on the front of the sprayer that allows you to quickly turn it and spray either horizontally or vertically – giving amazing control. It also has a cone-shaped spray which I didn’t need to use.
A few new white ceramic knobs and this former hot pink dresser is now a soft, pretty blue.
