Everywhere I turn I seem to find TV cabinets. You know the type… the large armoires that would hide those deep, boxy televisions behind a set of doors. Ten years ago, these cabinets served their purpose, but with the introduction of the streamlined, flat screen TVs, we DIY-ers need to come up with some creative solutions to transform these solid pieces of furniture for a new use. First, let me show you the TV cabinet I found and easily transformed. Then see several more ways these cabinets can be useful again.
The main thing that struck me and the reason I couldn’t let this TV cabinet go is the amount of storage it offered. It had a large, top moulding, a single shelf, and a large drawer; but it also had a large open space inside where a TV used to sit.
I added a shelf, painted it a neutral sand color and have transformed this dated TV cabinet into what can now be used as a clothes armoire in the bedroom, a linen closet in the bathroom, a food pantry in the kitchen, or shoe closet in the entryway.
Let’s look at a few more ideas to transform these dated, but useful TV cabinets. Belle Maison did a beautiful job turning this cabinet into a home office. I love the yellow, fabric-covered bulletin boards they created for the back & side panels.
