Ever since my kids were born I've come up with ways of to hide small messes in plain sight. Woven baskets are one of my favorite ways to contain collections of toys, mail, and this week… our wine-making supplies.
My husband and I began making our own wine about two years ago. You may have noticed the bottles used as props in my photos. However, those beautiful, decorative wine bottles also come with the the not-so-pretty and very large wine-making supplies which include a large, white, ...

Colonial Dresser Turned Modern Buffet
Long, low dressers are some of my favorite pieces of furniture to make over. Their low profile means they can be used in any room of the house - in the bedroom as a dresser, in the office as a credenza, in the living room as a TV console, or in the dining room as a buffet.
When I came across this six-foot long, low colonial dresser, I didn't even flinch at the out-of-date style. What I saw was a future coastal blue buffet with tons of storage and amazing dental detail along the top ...

Sideboard in Antique White Milk Paint
Happy Sunday! I have so many reveals to share with you, but I have to pace myself. At one point I was working on seven different furniture pieces - all at different stages. My goal this weekend was to finish up several of them and get my garage back in some sort of order.
Honestly… I find it really difficult to work in chaos and right now there's furniture everywhere, cans of paint everywhere, brushes, sandpaper, wood filler everywhere! I need to get organized!
Today's reveal is a simple ...

Bright White Girl’s Vanity & Stool
I promised my husband I wouldn't… but I did. I tried really hard not to… but I did. I've now taken over two bays of our garage painting furniture. What started as a small painting project or two in my cellar to keep me busy and relax me, has expanded from one bay in the garage… to the second bay of the garage… and is now overflowing out into our driveway.
I vowed last week that I wouldn't bring home another piece of furniture until I was able to finish up several projects and sell them; ...

Mid-Century Modern Console With Driftwood Stain
Happy Memorial Day! Hope you all had a chance to get outside to enjoy your grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. I'm sitting here on our covered porch overlooking a pond. There's a light breeze and my beagle is at my feet… thanks to all of the men and women serving our country… Life is good.
I spent the first half of the day spring cleaning. Most of the pollen has finally subsided so it was time for a thorough dusting of every flat surface in the house. The second half of my day was spent ...

Buffet Turned Graphite Bathroom Vanity
Welcome friends! Today I'd like to share with you a perfect example of turning a furniture piece into a bathroom vanity.
A friend of mine recently contacted me in search of a vanity for her remodeled bathroom. I happened to have the perfect furniture piece in stock. This small buffet was the right height, the right width, and had just the right amount of character. All it really needed was a modern color update.
Here's the buffet in its original form. It was brown-stained with a heavy ...

How to Determine Your Sales Strategy
Quality. Service. Price. If you sell a product or offer a service, these are the three most important elements to consider as you build your brand. Knowing which one is most important to your customer, will help you determine a strategy that ultimately closes the sale.
A few months ago in my post titled, Realizing I Am Strategic, I introduced you to one of my best friends, Dorene Olsen. Dorene is owner of Savory Insights - a branding company that focuses on developing a company's ...

Pair of Turquoise Tables
Today I was able to finish up a matching set of hexagon tables. A well-made, heavy-duty, wood table with tons of storage is always a good find. Finding a matching pair is an added bonus. A pair can be used as bedside tables in the bedroom, end tables in a living room, or push them together for a 10-sided coffee table.
Here's how the tables looked in their original form.
When I find a chunky piece of furniture that screams 1970's, I like to take it in the complete opposite direction by ...

Desk, Hutch & Grain Sack Striped Chair
Hope you had as beautiful and as productive a weekend as I did. It was filled with some very proud parental moments and some great painting projects - including an amazing desk, hutch and chair.
It actually wasn't until Sunday afternoon that I was able to dig in and start painting this weekend. My kids' sports take priority - I do my best to make every game. My daughter's basketball team actually competed in State competitions this weekend. I couldn't be more proud of every one of the ...

Emerald Green & Gold Dresser
The trees are finally starting to bloom and the grass is turning from brown to a vibrant green here in New England. It was a very long winter and I really missed the green. Perhaps that's why I enjoyed working on this colorful emerald green dresser this week.
The original dresser had a 1970's appearance and brown stain. It was time for an update. All six drawer pulls were attached and those wood blocks sitting on top were glued to the top drawer.
What I love about this dresser is ...

Butcher Block Table
Painted furniture is a huge trend right now; but that doesn't mean that every piece of wood furniture should be painted. Wood in itself is beautiful and sometimes maintaining that beauty is more important than following the current trend.
Painting furniture is what I do and what I love to do. It relaxes me. I began painting furniture several years ago, when family and friends passed their used furniture on to me, particular outdoor furniture. I think many of them wanted them back when they ...

Thrifty Decor Chick: Showing off Bre!
This morning I had to share some inspiration with you so you could get started Spring cleaning, painting & decorating.
This post from Thrifty Decor Chick featured Bre's home over at Rooms for Rent.
The color scheme she used in her home is stunning.
My husband objected to me painting all of the walls white - the first time I gently mentioned it… give me time. Maybe after seeing Bre's gorgeous light gray walls he'll understand the way my brain works.
For today… It's a gorgeous 70 degree ...
