A neighbor of mine was getting new furniture and generously gave this one to me to refinish. One look and I knew I could easily make it into a tall charcoal dresser masterpiece.
Here’s what the dresser looked like when I received it. Stained & polyurethaned with a few minor knicks – nothing I couldn’t easily sand down.
On the plus side, it also has 5 large drawers, a strong top molding, weighted turned feet, and all of it’s hardware both inside and out!
Painting that hardware with a brushed nickel /silver spray paint took about 10 seconds on each side. Presto! New hardware.
The dresser received two coats of Annie Sloan’s Graphite Chalk paint – a very dark, almost black, gray.
I then applied two coats of Minwax Clear Polycrylic to give it a satin sheen and protect the finish. Chalk paint requires a protective finish.
The drawers were also clear-coated inside & out and then new, white contact paper was applied.
Here’s the dresser next to another I found last week. Amazing what a little paint can do!
