One of the things I love about yard sales is finding an old wooden piece of furniture and transforming it to fit into my modern home.
So when I found these antique folding chairs for just a few dollars each, I grabbed them.
One of them was stamped “Romania”. They were really well-made with dovetail joints. Notice the beautiful antique hardware – which I did my best to preserve.
I loved the natural wood tone and really debated whether to keep them natural. They would be a gorgeous contrast if I could set them in an all white room; but in the end they just didn’t fit into the other woods (light white birch and dark walnuts) I have in my home. They were just too brown.
Once I started painting them this creamy off-white, I knew they would still be beautiful. The final result was an old antique wooden chair with a modern color. Simple lines. Stunning wood slats on the seats.
They contrast nicely with the dark gray granite on the dining room fireplace. I think these would also be beautiful with a black wood stain on them.
