The trees are finally starting to bloom and the grass is turning from brown to a vibrant green here in New England. It was a very long winter and I really missed the green. Perhaps that's why I enjoyed working on this colorful emerald green dresser this week.
The original dresser had a 1970's appearance and brown stain. It was time for an update. All six drawer pulls were attached and those wood blocks sitting on top were glued to the top drawer.
What I love about this dresser is ...

Butcher Block Table
Painted furniture is a huge trend right now; but that doesn't mean that every piece of wood furniture should be painted. Wood in itself is beautiful and sometimes maintaining that beauty is more important than following the current trend.
Painting furniture is what I do and what I love to do. It relaxes me. I began painting furniture several years ago, when family and friends passed their used furniture on to me, particular outdoor furniture. I think many of them wanted them back when they ...

Thrifty Decor Chick: Showing off Bre!
This morning I had to share some inspiration with you so you could get started Spring cleaning, painting & decorating.
This post from Thrifty Decor Chick featured Bre's home over at Rooms for Rent.
The color scheme she used in her home is stunning.
My husband objected to me painting all of the walls white - the first time I gently mentioned it… give me time. Maybe after seeing Bre's gorgeous light gray walls he'll understand the way my brain works.
For today… It's a gorgeous 70 degree ...

Antiqued-Rustic Storage Cabinet
Modern Antiqued-Rustic. Is there even such a thing? Well, if there isn't then I'm making it with this cabinet that's been transformed with an antique stain-over-paint wash.
Here's what this cabinet looked like "before" its transformation.
And then once I sanded down...
I love when I can sand off a 1970's brown finish to reveal beautiful, clean wood underneath. Once I do that, the possibilities are endless!
For this particular cabinet though, it was important to keep with the style of the ...

Girl’s Vanity & Stool
A few weeks ago I came across this child's vanity and stool. I actually continued past when I saw it, but decided to go back and give it a second look. It was brown laminate over engineered wood. On the upside, it was very sturdy and had both a mirror and a glass top that were both intact.
I've been wanting to try out Benjamin Moore's Advance paint and thought this would be the perfect piece on which to experiment. Advance water-based paint is Benjamin Moore's answer to an oil alternative. ...

Two-Tier Black Coffee Table
Today was one of those days when I wore myself out painting. Even though I can barely move, it was so worth the sense of accomplishment in getting so many projects completed and new ones started.
I was also able to photograph the completed pieces and will have a few days of reveals for you.
Let's start with the solid wood, stained coffee table...
Here's what the table looked like after it was sanded down. The true before included water stains on the the tabletop and on the legs from it being ...

This Week’s Finds: French Server & Small Tables
Over the past three weeks, my workshop has completely filled up with furniture pieces to paint. People have begun Spring cleaning and the evidence is showing by the mass amounts of pieces they're leaving out on the sidewalk and sending to the thrift stores.
I've been incredibly busy working on three pieces at a time - which I wouldn't have any other way - and experimenting with different brands of paint, stains, and stain over paint techniques. Tomorrow I'm hoping to be able to get the ...

Fantastic Finds: Rustic Cabinet, Desks, & Tables
You never know how much you appreciate something until it's gone. Sidewalks ladies. Yes, I'm talking about sidewalks! The record 110 inches of snow here in Boston, has created enormous snowbanks on the sidewalks. NINE FEET! How is that even possible?
But alas, we can finally see the sidewalks. Sigh. I really missed them.
The snow is finally (almost entirely) gone so I actually got out furniture shopping this past week. Here's a few of my fantastic finds...
A friend called to tell me ...

Amazing Finds at the Christmas Tree Shops
My husband and I started making homemade wine last year. We took a wine making class and purchased the supplies that would allow us to make six gallons of wine at a time. I love Chianti wine and it's actually been incredibly convenient having the bottles on hand, especially during the holidays when you need so many gifts. The only problem is that I have to find a place to store the large plastic bucket and six gallon glass jug.
The bucket and jug have been just sitting by my front entryway ...

Team Colors
Yesterday I posted a tutorial on how to make a wood bench. Today… the reveal of those benches painted in team colors.
With much help from my husband, we made four wood benches from scratch.
We were able to complete the build in one day and I've spent the past week prepping, sanding, and painting.
The prep work for any project is the the most important step. Take the time to fill any holes with wood filler, let it dry overnight, and then sand down the excess. Since we used raw wood, I ...

How to Make a Wood Bench
About a month back I showed you an old carpenter's bench that I painted navy blue & white. A client saw it and asked if I'd make some benches. Always up for a good project, I got to work on making four 8-foot long wooden benches. Here's a tutorial on how to make these sturdy benches...
Materials:
1 12-foot long 2"x10" pine plank (bench top & legs)
2 8-foot long 2"x4" pine stud (supports)
1 Box flat phillips 2-inch wood screws (50 pcs/box)
2 Packages 1-1/2-inch, ...

Lazy Stuffed Peppers
Do your weekends drive your adrenaline up? My adrenaline runs so incredibly high on the weekends; not because I'm running and rushing, but because I'm building, painting, creating, and spending time searching for old items I can bring back to life. Yes, I work hard and am completely exhausted by the time Sunday evening rolls around, but I don't see it that way. To me, it's FUN! It's EXHILERATING! It's RELAXING!
This weekend was no different. I spent the weekend building some wood benches ...
