Blue, gray, and white have been trending in my home lately, particularly in my boys' bedrooms. I've been painting so many things blue for them lately, I thought I'd go a little girly this week with PINK. Not just any pink but a very light, pastel pink.
Inspiration for this pastel pink headboard and table came from these photos posted by sfgirlbybay in her search for Scandinavian-inspired pastel shades.
Bright pastels. That's an oxymoron isn't it? Can a color be both soft & bright at ...

This Week’s Finds: Metal Bookcase, Rolling Cart, Carved Mirror, and Tables
I never imagined my garage would fill up so quickly! This week's finds included a few metal items, some tables & chairs, and a carved wood mirror.
First up is this two-tier, rolling metal cart. I saw through the dirt & grease and imagined it either as bright red portable bar to hold drinks or a hunter green garden cart to hold outdoor plants and garden tools.
I opted to clean it up and bring it back to it's original glory in chrome
(but I'd be happy to customize the color if a buyer ...

Kale & Sausage Soup for a Cold Rainy Day
It's a very cold, very rainy day here in New England. A Nor'easter is blowing through and the wind has been howling for the past twenty-four hours. I spent the morning painting the antique sideboard and petite dresser I told you about earlier this week. Can't wait to show you how they're coming along.
It's also a perfect day for homemade soup. My favorite is Sausage & Kale, not only because it's spicy and delicious, but because it's a one-pot meal that takes less than 10 minutes to ...

This Week’s Finds: Petite Dresser, Antique Sideboard & Dining Table
This was a good week. I found some amazing furniture pieces that I was able to get started on today. This sideboard is my favorite. It's made by Widdicomb Furniture Company. While I'd love to paint it a rich blue, I will likely be a little more conservative and let its natural elements shine. Perhaps a dark stained (almost black) top with a white or off-white body.
It came with the three large drawers (which just didn't make it into the picture) as well as three small drawers on the top ...

Cobalt Blue Pedastal Table
This large pedestal dining table was one of my first finds. Its transformation from severely-distressed, banged-up, brown-stained wood to this now modern cobalt blue is spectacular!
Here's how I found it. Someone actually took great care in making it.
A six-inch pedestal with very sturdy legs
attached to a three-inch thick table top.
As you can see, the top was pretty distressed and required a few hours of sanding.
Underneath that brown stain was some beautiful wood - pine I think.
I was ...

Tall Charcoal Dresser – Annie Sloan Graphite Chalk Paint
A neighbor of mine was getting new furniture and generously gave this one to me to refinish. One look and I knew I could easily make it into a tall charcoal dresser masterpiece.
Here's what the dresser looked like when I received it. Stained & polyurethaned with a few minor knicks - nothing I couldn't easily sand down.
On the plus side, it also has 5 large drawers, a strong top molding, weighted turned feet, and all of it's hardware both inside and ...

Granite Sideboard
This weekend was busy finishing up a few different pieces of furniture. Today I'd like to show you the beautiful sideboard I refinished in Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint in Granite.
Here's what the buffet looked like when I found it. There wasn't much detail to it but the drawers were well put together and it offered tons of storage. As you can see it was a pretty basic design which reminded me of the clean, modern lines you see in the furniture from Crate & Barrel - my favorite furniture ...

Dark Sea Blue Adirondack Chairs
Being from New England, I always loved the classic look of two Adirondack chairs in the back yard or on a front porch. I had inexpensive plastic ones for a while, but they cracked and couldn't be repaired. Then I found these adirondack chairs at a yard sale for just $15 each.
Of course they were worn, weathered, and wiggly when I found them, but the potential hit me like a ton of bricks. The shape was identical to the wooden chairs I've seen for $200 to $300 each. These were mine!
The ...
